DT Salsa Dance Company Overview

Welcome to the Detroit-Toledo Salsa Dance Company (DT Salsa)! DT Salsa was established in 2003 and is led and directed by Raymond Jemerson. Raymond has been performing for more than 10 years and started teaching salsa in the Toledo area in 2003. He continues to teach and perform primarily throughout Michigan and Ohio, and he has worked with numerous professional dance instructors in the Great Lakes region.  

Raymond has been dancing salsa and many other styles of Latin dance for the past 14 years. Considered a Detroit Metropolitan and Toledo favorite, Raymond began teaching different styles of Latin dance six years ago after receiving professional dance instruction from Arthur Murray Studios in Bloomfield, Michigan. While skilled in all forms of ballroom dance, Raymond decided to shift his teaching concentration to Latin dancing.

Currently comprised of about 15 members, the DT Salsa dance team has taught and performed at numerous events and corporate functions that include the following:

*         Latino Fest, Puerto Rican Flag Raising

*         "South of the Border" Festival

*         Cinco de Mayo and "Dancing under the Stars"at the Toledo Zoo and Civic Center and Promanade

*         ProMedica Bay Park Hospital

*         Flower Hospital

*         Nationwide insurance event

*         National Dance Week, Detroit, Michigan

Raymond and DT Salsa have performed at dance marathons at both Bowling Green State University and University of Toledo. The dance company has also conducted workshops at colleges and academies such as Washtenaw Community College (Ann Arbor, MI); Grand Blanc Academy (Grand Blanc, MI); and Heart Academy (Harper Woods, MI). Locally in Toledo, the team has taught for Adelante, as well as Dunbar Academy, and Libby High School.

Raymond's individual career has included local professional performances and competitions. He has shared the stage with starlet Dal Bouey at Detroit's MGM Grand and Motor City Casinos, and he took first place in a Jack & Jill competition held at Detroit's Tu-Can Tango. Currently, Raymond specializes in salsa styles learned from qualified instructors such as Elaine Marrero of Troy Dance Studios and duane Wrenn of Energetic Soul.
